One of the most recognisable names in the world of football remains Jorge Mendez of Gestifute Agency. The so called “Super Agent” has been involved in some of the biggest transfers to and out of Real Madrid. He took part in Cristiano Ronaldo’s move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, James Rodriguez’s transfer from Monaco to Real Madrid and Angel Di Maria’s exit from Madrid to Manchester United.

But there’s another agent/intermediary, who not only represents the same amount of players (13) from the top European clubs, but has been involved in the biggest transfer in the history of football. Jonathan Barnett from Stellar Group secured Gareth Bale’s move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid. Barnett has a strong influence in the Premier League as he’s responsible for career moves of Joe Hart and Luke Shaw among others. Forbes has calculated that he has completed contracts worth a total of $440 million. An impressive number, but still only half of Mendez’s success ($956 million).

2 agencies with a big share in Spain and France

In France, a big part of the football market is in the hands of Mondial Promotions. The French agency is working closely with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, Real Madrid’s centre back Raphael Varane, Mathieu Debuchy, among many others. Bahia International enjoys a similar share in Spain with Jose Otin planning future moves for Pedro, Jesus Navas, Javi Martinez and Vitolo.

Volker Struth is the Bundesliga transfer master

The biggest name in Bundesliga when it comes to transfers is Volker Struth from the Sports Total agency. His total net transfer is worth $424 million according to Forbes. He managed to achieve these numbers by representing some of the finest German talents such as Marco Reus, Mario Götze and Toni Kroos. Fernando Felichevich is concentrated on the South American market by taking care of the Chilean stars Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Bravo.

Family agents and no agents

What about Lionel Messi and Neymar? Some of the big-name players still prefer to use family members, not only Messi and Neymar, but also Arjen Robben and Juan Mata. There are also top players without agents, such as Eden Hazard, who is currently operating without any sort of agent at all.

Leicester City spent 10 times less than Man United

The net total paid to agents in Premier League by clubs between October and February was £46,582,843 with only six teams spending less than £1m. One of them are the new Premier League champions Leicester City! The new Premier League winners have only spent 936 thousand £ and have 17 points advantage ahead of the biggest spender on agents – Manchester United. Manchester have paid 10 million £ and are still fighting for a spot in the Champions League. 2nd placed Tottenham has spent 2,5 million £, 4 million less then Liverpool FC, who is currently on 8th place, 15 points behind Tottenham and 22 points behind Leicester City.
