Denis Kramar is a 22 year old left defender, a Fieldoo power user and one of the winners in our Minguella Challenge. He played for teams from Slovenia, Poland, Cyprus and Spain where he is currently playing for his new club Getafe B.
Describe yourself as a footballer? How do you remember your beginnings? Why football at all?
It is hard to be your own judge, but I would say that the attributes that describe me the most would be: aggression, bravery, my dedication to the team and my solid left foot. I started playing football when I was seven years old, mostly because it was fun and I could hang out with my friends.
You experienced football in Slovenia, Poland, Cyprus and now Spain. How would you describe football in all four countries? What are the main differences and where do you see the connections, similarities?
These are all different styles of play. For example in Poland it is a very physical game, lots of running and contact. As we know, in Spain, they play very technical football with a lot of passing and patience in their game. In Slovenia it is a combination of both. As for Cyprus, you never know how a team will play because every season almost half of the team is changed. But I would still say that there are more similarities to Spanish football than to Polish or Slovenian.

You were chosen as one of the two winners of the Minguella Challenge, how did you feel when you found out that you are going to Spain? You were chosen in a pool of more than 5.000 footballers …
I was surprised and very proud that I made it in such a huge competition. I was very excited about my trip to Spain. My opinion is that I am relatively experienced for my age. I am 22 and I have played in Poland, Cyprus and took part in 8 European matches. Besides that I was also a free agent. I believe these were some of the key factors that influenced their final decision.
Girona FC didn’t sign you up after your trial, what are your impressions about the trial? How would you rate Jordi Pascual, the other winner of the Minguela Challenge?
It is true, I was not chosen. However it is an organisation on a very high level. Everything went on as described before so I and Jordi can’t really complain about anything as we enjoyed our time there. Nevertheless I was still happy to leave Girona because my friend Jordi convinced them and got signed. Jordi has very good physical attributes and a feeling for the goal that every real striker should have. With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck he can look forward to a great career. But the most important thing is that he is a great person too.
Despite everything you got your chance to play in Spain, you impressed Getafe. How do you feel in your new club and what are your goals for the future?
They say that every beginning is hard but I must tell you that I feel great and I will be ready to play soon, which I’m really looking forward to. For now my goal is to get through the ranks of Getafe B to their first team and play in La Liga. Once you play there the future sure looks brighter.
Now that you play in Spain who would be your first choice: Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? Why? Can you also pick your favourite player that plays in your position?
This is a tough question. But if I had to choose it would be Ronaldo because he got to where he is now with hard work. At the moment my favourite player in my position is Sergio Ramos.
What is your biggest football success so far?
I would say playing in 8 European matches with Mura 05 and my latest transfer to Getafe.
Last question: do you remember the funniest thing that happened to you on the football field?
I can’t remember a single highlight right now but almost every day something funny happens in training.
